Mis-Education

There is an unpopular kind of education in town and it’s called mis-education.
Miseducation is simply when someone misses education. And by this I don’t mean that such person didn’t go to school. They did but they went to school to acquire wrong stuff. Irrelevant stuff. It is when people study what they are not supposed to study.
Miseducation is when someone goes to school to study the wrong course. They gain admission to study any-course instead of their gift-course. They come to study any-course instead of studying their skill-course.
Sometimes, the applicant or aspirant may not necessarily be responsible for this as he or she is handicapped by a faulty system that oversees the kind of education that people get. In the way that an applicant may want to study Electrical Engineering because that’s where his skills, gifts, talents or capabilities lie. But the ‘school’ won’t grant him his request for some reasons; cut off mark, admission quota, catchment area, tribalism and more. Rather he is thrown to a department outside his skills or at worse not offered admission. The applicant who may have applied for many years without getting admitted finally grabs this opportunity to study a course not related to him. Few years down the course, he is struggling, disappointed, confused and wants to leave the system by all means. If he manages to secure graduation, he gets a poor grade which puts him at a tight point in the labor market. Those who are determined, go back to study and acquire skills that truly matters to them.
The thing is: our nation’s system of admission and education sets us up for mis-education and I am convinced that mis-education is one of the chief source of unemployment.
May our people see.
PS: In my next post I’ll be sharing about the way forward.
